BRITVEX ADVISORY LTD
Standard terms of business
Last updated 20 October 2026
About these terms
These standard terms of business apply to all work BRITVEX ADVISORY LTD (company number 16133503, registered office 27 Gadbury Fold, Atherton, Manchester, M46 0GN, United Kingdom) does for you. Your engagement letter lists the services, fees and any special terms; if the letter and these terms differ, the letter applies.
What we will do
- We do the work described in your engagement letter for the periods it covers, using the information and explanations you give us.
- We do not audit or check your records unless the letter says so, and our work can't be relied on to find fraud or errors in them.
- Anything else (for example an HMRC enquiry, a tax investigation, back years, valuations or advice not listed) is agreed and priced with you in writing before we start.
- Our advice is for you alone, for the purpose it was given. No one else may rely on it without our written agreement.
What you will do
- Give us complete, accurate records and information on time, and tell us promptly about anything that may affect your tax or your business.
- Check and approve each return, set of accounts or filing before we submit it. You (and, for a company, its directors) remain legally responsible for what is filed, for keeping proper records and for paying tax on time.
- Keep your records for as long as the law requires (usually at least 6 years for a company and 5 years after the filing date for Self Assessment).
- Tell us about any letter from HMRC, Companies House or another authority as soon as you receive it.
Fees and payment
- Fees are as set out in your engagement letter, or agreed with you in writing for extra work. We review fees once a year and give at least 30 days' notice of any change; you may end the engagement without charge if you don't accept a change.
- Invoices are due within 7 days of the invoice date. If an invoice is overdue we will remind you; we may pause non-urgent work after giving you 14 days' notice, but we will never let a statutory deadline pass without telling you first.
- Business clients: we may charge interest and compensation on late payment under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.
Money laundering and sanctions
We must check the identity of our clients and their owners and keep those records, under the Money Laundering Regulations 2017. If we know or suspect money laundering, terrorist financing or a breach of sanctions, we must report it to the National Crime Agency or OFSI, and the law may stop us telling you that we have done so. We can't act for you until our checks are complete.
Confidentiality and your data
We keep your affairs confidential, except where the law requires us to disclose them or you agree. We use your personal data as described in our privacy notice. We may use trusted suppliers (for example secure hosting and software) who are bound by confidentiality.
Communication
We communicate with you through the client portal and by email. Email can't be guaranteed to be secure: send documents through the portal where you can. We never change our bank details by email; if you receive such a message, call us on +44 20 3758 7500 before paying.
Records and documents
Your original records remain yours and are returned to you on request. The working papers we create are ours. Documents we produce for you belong to you once our fees for them are paid.
Professional standards
We work to high professional and ethical standards, keep professional indemnity insurance, and follow the rules of our anti-money laundering supervisor, HM Revenue and Customs.
Our liability
We are responsible for loss caused by our negligence or breach of these terms. We are not responsible for loss caused by information you gave us being late, incomplete or wrong, or by acts of HMRC, Companies House or others. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
Ending our engagement
- Either of us may end the engagement by giving 30 days' notice in writing (a consumer can also cancel within 14 days as explained in the terms of use).
- We may end it straight away if we are legally required to, or if we can no longer act for you (for example if checks we must do can't be completed).
- When it ends we will tell you about any deadlines coming up, hand over your records, and respond to a reasonable request from your new accountant (professional clearance).
Complaints
If you are unhappy, please tell us. Our complaints procedure is at https://portal.britvex.co.uk/complaints.php.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
